A traditional ‘topping out’ ceremony was held at Sprowston Diamond Centre to celebrate the completion of the external façade of the new multi-purpose sports hall. Senior staff of Omnis construction and representatives of the Council were joined by Bidwells and local tradesmen to commemorate this event. Mr Ian Moncur (Sprowston Town Council Chairman) led the ceremony by placing a tree branch on the top level of the building. The topping-out ceremony is said to date back to pre-Dark Ages in Scandinavia, with the practice of placing a tree on the top of a new building to appease the tree-dwelling spirits exiled by its construction. Lets hope the public of Sprowston are appeased by their new multipurpose sports hall once completed!
To mark this special occasion a bespoke weather vane was commissioned. Designed by Senior Project Manager Simon Dazeley and manufactured by apprentice Daniel Hanner of Croskill Ventilation.
